Capacity Building and Research Projects

UC Davis has provided technical assistance, education, training and materials to support Egypt. The focus has been primarily on horticulture and extension development projects.

2011

  • Egypt: Extension evaluation  Jim Hill was a member of a three person team that evaluated the extension system in the Upper Nile region. As part of the MEAS project, the group undertook a rapid scoping study of the extension system - it's players, mandate, potential and needs. Lead instructors: Jim Hill

  • Irrigation and Extension - capacity building. UC Davis delivered a series of 4-week course on irrigation and Extension at UC Davis (August 2009-2011) with follow-up in-country. Contacts. Steve Grattan, Rick Snyder and Mark Bell
  • Irrigation and Extension - in-country reviews. UC Davis participated in a series of internal reviews, discussions and field visits in 2010. Contacts. Jim Hill and Nick Madden.
  • Horticulture and Extension. UC Davis was a partner in the recently completed (2008) multi-year El Shams project - partnering with CARE - to deliver technical support and training on horticulture and extension. Contacts. Paul Marcotte and Mark Bell

  • Egypt: Irrigation and extension II A 4 week train-the-trainer course conducted at UC Davis in June to train irrigation specialists of two universities and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR) in enhanced irrigation technology and more effective extension methods. The course with 25 participants was supported by MALR. Lead instructors: Mark Bell, Steve Grattan, Corky Lovin, Nicholaus Madden and Rick Snyder

  • Egypt: Irrigation and extension III A 4 week train-the-trainer course conducted in October at UC Davis for irrigation specialists from two universities and the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR).
